Frequently Asked Questions
Makeup and hair should be done prior to arrival. Tights, accessories, and costumes will be at the school and ready for dancers when they arrive. Dancers should bring all of their shoes with them. Recital tickets will also be distributed at dress rehearsal. Pictures and videos may be taken at dress rehearsal only. We ask that only ONE parent or guardian stay for dress rehearsal. Please, no siblings. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter!
Hair should be styled in a low, center‑parted, sleek ponytail. Please spray down all wispies and flyaways, and secure the hair with bobby pins. Please practice this hairstyle before the day of the recital. If you are unable to do this hairstyle, please make arrangements for someone to assist you.
Level 2 Oxford Dancers (Miss Ashley and Miss Harley)
💈Hair should be in a high ponytail (no part) for tap, jazz and contemporary. 👯♀️
Using that same ponytail 🐎 Hair should be in a bun for ballet and lyrical. 🩰
Makeup should be done for dress rehearsal so that any necessary changes can be made before the recital. Stage lighting will wash out the dancer’s face. Use light brown on the eyelids, a darker brown on the outer corners, and white under the brow bone. Black eyeliner and black mascara are also recommended. Please use foundation and powder to reduce shine on the face. Cheeks should be a pink or rose shade. Lip color should be red, not pink—think “fire engine” when choosing a shade. See the video link below for a makeup tutorial. A video demonstrating what recital makeup should look like is posted below.

ALL SHOES, TIGHTS, AND COSTUMES MUST BE LABELED WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME INSIDE. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. There are hundreds of shoes and costumes in the dressing area, and items can easily get misplaced. Ensuring that every item is labeled helps us return anything that goes missing.
No underwear is allowed to be worn, as it can be seen under stage lighting and costumes. Before coming to dress rehearsal and the recital, please have your dancer put on the nude tights first with no underwear, followed by the nude leotard (if purchased). We recommend a nude leotard for any dancer who has more than one dance. If you would like to order one, please use the link below.

Please double‑check that everything—except costumes and tights—are packed in their bag. Dancers will need to be dropped off and signed in at the dressing room. There will be designated assistants in the dressing room to help your dancers with changing and anything they may need during the recital.
ANYONE WHO IS NOT CLEARED AS A DRESSING ROOM ASSISTANT MAY NOT ENTER THE DRESSING ROOMS. Please understand this is for your child’s safety. We must always know who is in the backstage area. AAOD staff members will be stationed in the dressing room at all times.
Dancers will also need to be signed out at the end of the night. You may pack your dancer a clean snack and water for while they are backstage.
We would like all dancers to stay until the end of the show to be part of the all‑studio finale. All dancers have learned this routine and have been practicing it in class. We encourage all dancers to participate if they would like to. Dancers may wear their recital T‑shirts if they are purchasing one or a teal-colored t-shirt with black bottoms.
